MTB and Road Cycling: Routes and Itineraries across South Tyrol

In South Tyrol there are over 600 km of mountain biking, road cycling and free-riding routes running across varied kinds of terrain. Besides the more difficult routes through the high mountains, as well as along old military roads and forest tracks, there are also secluded biking trails through the forests and meadows, cycling paths in the valleys and along the famous old Roman trade route, the Via Claudia Augusta.

Mountain Biking

Those of your clients interested in mountain biking and freeriding in South Tyrol will enjoy exploring otherworldly rocky landscapes, old military tracks, forest trails and secluded meadow paths. There are literally hundreds of kilometers of forest roads and single trails to explore, all effectively signposted. This helps to ensure that the Dolomites and the Vinschgau valley remain among the most popular mountain biking destinations. Off-road cyclists will quickly reach the desired altitudes thanks to numerous cableway systems and convenient bike shuttles.

Road Cycling

South Tyrol is a true paradise for road cyclists, with numerous bends leading along challenging mountain roads as they wind their way up the spectacular Stilfserjoch mountain pass. But there are also long, straight cycle tracks traversing the entire length of the Vinschgau, Etschtal and Pustertal valleys. Leisure-holidaymakers and families can take full advantage of the easy bike trails in the valleys, enjoying the spectacular views from the huts serving as rest stops along the way. The ancient Via Claudia Augusta, along the old Roman trade route is probably the best known of these trails, running from the Reschen Pass down the entire Etschtal Valley or the Drauradweg trail from Toblach/Dobbiaco to Lienz in East Tyrol.
