It is situated on a steep mountain spur which slopes down to the west into the valley of the Talfer stream and to the north into the valley of the Zaggler river. The hunting lodge is in a central, quiet location and offers a 360-degree panoramic view. The castle dates back to the 13th century and is the former summer residence of the noble von Wangen, an old Tyrolean noble family. In the late Middle Ages, the castle was destroyed and fell into ruin. It was not until the 1980s that the castle was bought by the current owner family of Dr. Leopold Saltuari.
